We can all agree that life is a little unstable right now. A lot of us are starting on a whole new rollercoaster with school starting up again and all of the uncertainties that come with distance learning is feeling like a double loop we didn't see coming. When I think about my emotions over the past 7 months growing from extreme paranoia- to total cabin fever- to a glimmer of hope-to complete isolation- to finding a new normal- and then back to uncertainty....UGH!! When are we gonna catch that break!

Now tell me that's a rollercoaster you didn't sign up for! And to top that off, there's been a lot of opinions from people you don't really care for and too many people making you feel like you're doing everything wrong. There's been too many judgey stares at the grocery store.....

anddddddd, I'm starting to feel really overwhelmed just typing this all out.

*Deep breaths. Deep breaths.*

Ok, So 2020 has been a shit show. We've all just accepted the defeat and soul crushing fact that a corndog from Disneyland ain't gonna happen for us. That truth alone has helped me build up some tough layers during these past few months, and I'm here to tell you-

YOU CAN DO IT! YOU WILL SURVIVE WITHOUT THE CORNDOG!

*will we though, bethany? really...*

Anyways,

So today I'm going to share 4 simple & easy ways to love yourself a little extra...

  1. Unplug. I'm 1000% guilty of this, I'll totally admit to this. I am connected to my phone and computer way too much. But try it a few minutes at a time first. Then every few hours. If you can do 5 hours without flipping over your phone, (sleeping does NOT count) then I challenge you to leave it on your nightstand for a whole day. Take it from me who's trying to make a living out of sharing my life on the internet, unplug and connect with your family. It's easier than you think! We recently took a little family day trip to the beach and I purposely stuffed my phone to the bottom of my beach tote. *granted-it resurfaced for pictures.* But I stayed off social media, didn't answer texts or calls the whole time there. It felt really good to have a peaceful summer afternoon with my husband and boys.

  2. CALM. This is actually an anger management/breathing technique I learned from my FAV show, Jane The Virgin, and I swear by it! C-A-L-M, an acronym for things that make us feel happy- Coffee-Albert-Lavender-My boys. Take deep breaths and go over the word CALM in your mind, remind yourself of everything that helps keep your temper in check.

3. Find the Humor. On days I feel low and not myself, I always ask my husband to color my hair. I know it's odd and probably CRAZY for any woman to do. But he actually does a really good job and I just die laughing at him unleash his inner Majulio. Mindset is everything and I've learned that laughing helps me clear away any negativity I'm holding on to and open myself up to enjoying the moment rather than focusing on the bad.

4. Get Dressed. It Seems like such a DUH thing to do, but I mean really get dressed. I think getting dressed in something that makes us feel good is especially important for ourselves given the circumstances we are in. Just because we have to stay home all day, doesn't mean we have to look like it! ( Or smell.) So whether you’re working from home, balancing parenting, living alone or just bumming it on the couch with Netflix – get dressed. I promise it will turn your day around and give you a better energy boost than your 2nd cup of coffee.

SO NOT saying that your 2nd cup isn't needed, cuz mine definitely still is...even with a bra on.

I hope this post serves as a little reminder to everyone that it's ok to feel out of it right now. Acknowledging your emotions and addressing your feelings are so important and I think we seem to forget that sometimes. We are human. Mom's have moments. I too have struggled to find a balance between mom life and personal life. It’s hard to feel recharged when every day is kind of the same but these 4 simple things can make a big difference in any mood your in.

Sending you all my love and big hugs.

Remember...

C-A-L-M.
